Why the name SkyPilot?

Great question! The creator lives in Tokyo and speaks both English and Japanese. In Japanese, "Sora" (空) means "Sky". Since we're essentially piloting the Sora API, the name SkyPilot was born — a bilingual pun that perfectly captures what this tool does. Now you know a bit of Japanese too! 🗾

Is this official OpenAI software?

No. SkyPilot is a community-built tool. We're not affiliated with OpenAI.

How much does SkyPilot cost?

SkyPilot is 100% free and open source (MIT license). You pay OpenAI directly for API usage—we don't charge anything.

Where is my API key stored?

In your environment variables or local .env file. It never touches our servers because SkyPilot runs entirely on your machine.

What's the difference between CLI and TUI?
